Narrative:

On apr/sun/02, I was assigned a job card on aircraft X, which was in the hangar for a C-11 check. My job was an inspection of the r-hand main landing gear torque links. I found gouges in the bushings of the upper torque link. I replaced the torque link per maintenance manual and the job card. I didn't realize the new torque link did not come with a target installed for the proximity switch (sensor). I did not xfer the target from the old torque link to the new one. The maintenance manual and job card do not tell you to xfer the target. The aircraft left without the target on the r-hand main landing gear. The aircraft started having problems associated with the missing target on the main landing gear. It had to return to station for maintenance. The aircraft was ferried to ZZZ1 for further maintenance. The corrective action would be changing the maintenance manual and job card. They should mention the target and the need to xfer it from the old torque link to the new one. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: the reporter stated the maintenance manual is now corrected and gives details on installing a new target and adjustment. The reporter said the illustrated parts pictorial was also corrected showing the target. The reporter stated the airbus maintenance manuals were in many cases vague in descriptions and lacking detail.

Title: AN AIRBUS 319 WAS DISPATCHED IN NON COMPLIANCE WITH THE GND SENSING TARGET MISSING FROM THE R MAIN LNDG GEAR TORQUE LINK.

Narrative: ON APR/SUN/02, I WAS ASSIGNED A JOB CARD ON ACFT X, WHICH WAS IN THE HANGAR FOR A C-11 CHK. MY JOB WAS AN INSPECTION OF THE R-HAND MAIN LNDG GEAR TORQUE LINKS. I FOUND GOUGES IN THE BUSHINGS OF THE UPPER TORQUE LINK. I REPLACED THE TORQUE LINK PER MAINT MANUAL AND THE JOB CARD. I DIDN'T REALIZE THE NEW TORQUE LINK DID NOT COME WITH A TARGET INSTALLED FOR THE PROX SWITCH (SENSOR). I DID NOT XFER THE TARGET FROM THE OLD TORQUE LINK TO THE NEW ONE. THE MAINT MANUAL AND JOB CARD DO NOT TELL YOU TO XFER THE TARGET. THE ACFT LEFT WITHOUT THE TARGET ON THE R-HAND MAIN LNDG GEAR. THE ACFT STARTED HAVING PROBS ASSOCIATED WITH THE MISSING TARGET ON THE MAIN LNDG GEAR. IT HAD TO RETURN TO STATION FOR MAINT. THE ACFT WAS FERRIED TO ZZZ1 FOR FURTHER MAINT. THE CORRECTIVE ACTION WOULD BE CHANGING THE MAINT MANUAL AND JOB CARD. THEY SHOULD MENTION THE TARGET AND THE NEED TO XFER IT FROM THE OLD TORQUE LINK TO THE NEW ONE. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE RPTR STATED THE MAINT MANUAL IS NOW CORRECTED AND GIVES DETAILS ON INSTALLING A NEW TARGET AND ADJUSTMENT. THE RPTR SAID THE ILLUSTRATED PARTS PICTORIAL WAS ALSO CORRECTED SHOWING THE TARGET. THE RPTR STATED THE AIRBUS MAINT MANUALS WERE IN MANY CASES VAGUE IN DESCRIPTIONS AND LACKING DETAIL.
