Narrative:

ZKC frequency 135.05. Controller was not having a good day. He was unhappy with my request for routing changes. He was surly and unaccommodating with regard to informing us of similar call signs on frequency. When I requested clarification, he was again non cooperative. Anyone can have a bad day, but we have to communicate and be proactive. This is not me versus him. I was in poor WX with manual pressurization. I did not have time for 'mental judo.' many 'larger truths' need to be addressed regarding ATC -- not the least of which is a lack of 'espirit de corp.' this has obvious safety implications and effects basic operations negatively.
