Narrative:
We were already high (+2 dots) because we were held high by approach when the final controller had us slow and told us to follow a B757. When the B757 rolled out on the localizer, we were 2 mi or less in trail. We were already on the localizer 4-5 mi outside fronz. I wanted to go around, but the captain said no, to continue. I had to do some pretty serious s-turns to slow to 180 KTS (by ATC) and descend. There was no way I could build distance between us and the B757. I got on the glide path and near speed by fronz, however, we still almost went around because the B757 cleared the first high speed when we were in the flare. I called approach and talked to mr X who said no, that we were 4-5 mi behind the B757. Bullshit! I did not like final vectoring a B757 in front of us at 2 mi, especially when I'm 4-5 mi from the FAF and high and fast. I would like to have gone around, but the captain wanted to continue, and I certainly don't like an ATC system who wants to pooh-pah their screw-ups.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A320 CREW WAS SPACED 2 MI BEHIND A B757 IN D01 CLASS B AIRSPACE.
Narrative: WE WERE ALREADY HIGH (+2 DOTS) BECAUSE WE WERE HELD HIGH BY APCH WHEN THE FINAL CTLR HAD US SLOW AND TOLD US TO FOLLOW A B757. WHEN THE B757 ROLLED OUT ON THE LOC, WE WERE 2 MI OR LESS IN TRAIL. WE WERE ALREADY ON THE LOC 4-5 MI OUTSIDE FRONZ. I WANTED TO GO AROUND, BUT THE CAPT SAID NO, TO CONTINUE. I HAD TO DO SOME PRETTY SERIOUS S-TURNS TO SLOW TO 180 KTS (BY ATC) AND DSND. THERE WAS NO WAY I COULD BUILD DISTANCE BTWN US AND THE B757. I GOT ON THE GLIDE PATH AND NEAR SPD BY FRONZ, HOWEVER, WE STILL ALMOST WENT AROUND BECAUSE THE B757 CLRED THE FIRST HIGH SPD WHEN WE WERE IN THE FLARE. I CALLED APCH AND TALKED TO MR X WHO SAID NO, THAT WE WERE 4-5 MI BEHIND THE B757. BULLSHIT! I DID NOT LIKE FINAL VECTORING A B757 IN FRONT OF US AT 2 MI, ESPECIALLY WHEN I'M 4-5 MI FROM THE FAF AND HIGH AND FAST. I WOULD LIKE TO HAVE GONE AROUND, BUT THE CAPT WANTED TO CONTINUE, AND I CERTAINLY DON'T LIKE AN ATC SYS WHO WANTS TO POOH-PAH THEIR SCREW-UPS.
