Narrative:
I was taxiing to runway 26 on taxiway C. This was my first time taxiing to runway 26 on taxiway C. I taxied past the hold line. I was looking for the line or sign but did not see either. There was grass growing around the sign partly obscuring it. Also, the markings on the taxiway were faded and hard to see. Ground control called and said I had passed the hold line. I stopped. I was about 50-75 ft and past the line. This hold line is about 300 ft from the end of the runway or taxiway C5. It's about 200 ft from taxiway C4. I was also not expecting a taxiway hold this far from the end of the runway. I think a clrer sign would help. Also, new paint is needed for the on hold line. Also, ground control should warn pilots that the hold line is so far back from the end of the runway and txwys C4 and C5. Callback conversation with dxr tower specialist revealed the following information: the airport's hold lines were painted approximately 3 months ago and reflect the new standard (dimensions). Each hold line is accompanied by 'red' box type stop signs, unobscured and plainly visible. The specialist, in discussing hold line location, stated the hold line placement for runway 8/26 is somewhat unorthodox, in that they coincide with the displaced threshold, placing them a considerable distance from the runway end. Although not their responsibility to do so, the tower controllers attempt to advise unfamiliar pilots as they approach the hold lines.

Title: A PA28 PLT, TAXIING FOR TKOF AT DXR, CROSSED THE HOLD SHORT LINE WITHOUT A CLRNC.
Narrative: I WAS TAXIING TO RWY 26 ON TXWY C. THIS WAS MY FIRST TIME TAXIING TO RWY 26 ON TXWY C. I TAXIED PAST THE HOLD LINE. I WAS LOOKING FOR THE LINE OR SIGN BUT DID NOT SEE EITHER. THERE WAS GRASS GROWING AROUND THE SIGN PARTLY OBSCURING IT. ALSO, THE MARKINGS ON THE TXWY WERE FADED AND HARD TO SEE. GND CTL CALLED AND SAID I HAD PASSED THE HOLD LINE. I STOPPED. I WAS ABOUT 50-75 FT AND PAST THE LINE. THIS HOLD LINE IS ABOUT 300 FT FROM THE END OF THE RWY OR TXWY C5. IT'S ABOUT 200 FT FROM TXWY C4. I WAS ALSO NOT EXPECTING A TXWY HOLD THIS FAR FROM THE END OF THE RWY. I THINK A CLRER SIGN WOULD HELP. ALSO, NEW PAINT IS NEEDED FOR THE ON HOLD LINE. ALSO, GND CTL SHOULD WARN PLTS THAT THE HOLD LINE IS SO FAR BACK FROM THE END OF THE RWY AND TXWYS C4 AND C5. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH DXR TWR SPECIALIST REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE ARPT'S HOLD LINES WERE PAINTED APPROX 3 MONTHS AGO AND REFLECT THE NEW STANDARD (DIMENSIONS). EACH HOLD LINE IS ACCOMPANIED BY 'RED' BOX TYPE STOP SIGNS, UNOBSCURED AND PLAINLY VISIBLE. THE SPECIALIST, IN DISCUSSING HOLD LINE LOCATION, STATED THE HOLD LINE PLACEMENT FOR RWY 8/26 IS SOMEWHAT UNORTHODOX, IN THAT THEY COINCIDE WITH THE DISPLACED THRESHOLD, PLACING THEM A CONSIDERABLE DISTANCE FROM THE RWY END. ALTHOUGH NOT THEIR RESPONSIBILITY TO DO SO, THE TWR CTLRS ATTEMPT TO ADVISE UNFAMILIAR PLTS AS THEY APCH THE HOLD LINES.
