Narrative:
Taxiing for takeoff at den, tower cleared us into 'position and hold on runway 25.' I advised the controller we needed a few mins to work out a small maintenance issue. The controller directed us to turn right on taxiway B, left on taxiway F and hold short of runway 25. We complied. When we were ready (our maintenance issue was solved) I advised tower that we were ready to go. The controller told us to 'position and hold' on runway 25. I read back the clearance and we proceeded to cross the hold short line. We noticed another aircraft, a BAE146 also going into position on runway 25 at the full length. We stopped the aircraft, I questioned tower about both aircraft going into position. The controller realized the problem, asked us if we were across the hold line which I told him 'yes.' the controller then cleared the BAE146 to taxi past us on runway 25 and then cleared for takeoff. They departed, then we were subsequently cleared for takeoff and departed on runway 25 from taxiway F. The tower controller never clarified which aircraft they had initially cleared 'into position.' so we don't know if I took someone else's clearance or what. If we both read back the clearance at the same time, tower may not have known that 2 aircraft responded, which is what I suppose happened.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A B757-200 CREW CLRED INTO POS AT A RWY INTXN, OBSERVED ANOTHER ACFT TAXIING INTO POS AT RWY'S END. CONSEQUENTLY, THE CREW QUERIED ATC WITH A RESULTANT DELAY IN THEIR TKOF CLRNC.
Narrative: TAXIING FOR TKOF AT DEN, TWR CLRED US INTO 'POS AND HOLD ON RWY 25.' I ADVISED THE CTLR WE NEEDED A FEW MINS TO WORK OUT A SMALL MAINT ISSUE. THE CTLR DIRECTED US TO TURN R ON TXWY B, L ON TXWY F AND HOLD SHORT OF RWY 25. WE COMPLIED. WHEN WE WERE READY (OUR MAINT ISSUE WAS SOLVED) I ADVISED TWR THAT WE WERE READY TO GO. THE CTLR TOLD US TO 'POS AND HOLD' ON RWY 25. I READ BACK THE CLRNC AND WE PROCEEDED TO CROSS THE HOLD SHORT LINE. WE NOTICED ANOTHER ACFT, A BAE146 ALSO GOING INTO POS ON RWY 25 AT THE FULL LENGTH. WE STOPPED THE ACFT, I QUESTIONED TWR ABOUT BOTH ACFT GOING INTO POS. THE CTLR REALIZED THE PROB, ASKED US IF WE WERE ACROSS THE HOLD LINE WHICH I TOLD HIM 'YES.' THE CTLR THEN CLRED THE BAE146 TO TAXI PAST US ON RWY 25 AND THEN CLRED FOR TKOF. THEY DEPARTED, THEN WE WERE SUBSEQUENTLY CLRED FOR TKOF AND DEPARTED ON RWY 25 FROM TXWY F. THE TWR CTLR NEVER CLARIFIED WHICH ACFT THEY HAD INITIALLY CLRED 'INTO POS.' SO WE DON'T KNOW IF I TOOK SOMEONE ELSE'S CLRNC OR WHAT. IF WE BOTH READ BACK THE CLRNC AT THE SAME TIME, TWR MAY NOT HAVE KNOWN THAT 2 ACFT RESPONDED, WHICH IS WHAT I SUPPOSE HAPPENED.
