Narrative:
'Heads up' from cincy approach control of opposing VFR traffic at 12 O'clock position, 12 NM, about 10700 ft MSL. Our altitude assigned was 11000 ft MSL on mosey 5 inbound to cvg, inbound from nabb. Acquired intruding aircraft on TCASII (not visually) at approximately 12 NM. Received TCASII TA at about 3 NM. Received TCASII RA at approximately 2 NM followed by 'climb' command, followed by 'increase climb' command. We obeyed TCASII commands in constant communications with ATC. Climbed through 12000 ft and eventually got 'clear' message (aural) from TCASII. Leveled just over 13000 ft and immediately began descent back to assigned 11000 ft altitude. No turns off course required or directed. All deviation was vertical, smooth, uneventful. ATC followed our event with alert to an air carrier jet behind us, also inbound to cvg. My first officer visually acquired intruding aircraft below us and very slightly right of center (under right wing) as we passed over. Excellent coordination with and by cvg controller who was not in communication with the VFR traffic.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: CL65 FLC CLBED FROM ASSIGNED STAR ALT IN RESPONSE TO A TCASII RA ON TFC GIVEN AS AN ADVISORY BY APCH CTLR.
Narrative: 'HEADS UP' FROM CINCY APCH CTL OF OPPOSING VFR TFC AT 12 O'CLOCK POS, 12 NM, ABOUT 10700 FT MSL. OUR ALT ASSIGNED WAS 11000 FT MSL ON MOSEY 5 INBOUND TO CVG, INBOUND FROM NABB. ACQUIRED INTRUDING ACFT ON TCASII (NOT VISUALLY) AT APPROX 12 NM. RECEIVED TCASII TA AT ABOUT 3 NM. RECEIVED TCASII RA AT APPROX 2 NM FOLLOWED BY 'CLB' COMMAND, FOLLOWED BY 'INCREASE CLB' COMMAND. WE OBEYED TCASII COMMANDS IN CONSTANT COMS WITH ATC. CLBED THROUGH 12000 FT AND EVENTUALLY GOT 'CLR' MESSAGE (AURAL) FROM TCASII. LEVELED JUST OVER 13000 FT AND IMMEDIATELY BEGAN DSCNT BACK TO ASSIGNED 11000 FT ALT. NO TURNS OFF COURSE REQUIRED OR DIRECTED. ALL DEV WAS VERT, SMOOTH, UNEVENTFUL. ATC FOLLOWED OUR EVENT WITH ALERT TO AN ACR JET BEHIND US, ALSO INBOUND TO CVG. MY FO VISUALLY ACQUIRED INTRUDING ACFT BELOW US AND VERY SLIGHTLY R OF CTR (UNDER R WING) AS WE PASSED OVER. EXCELLENT COORD WITH AND BY CVG CTLR WHO WAS NOT IN COM WITH THE VFR TFC.
