Narrative:
We were cleared from the gate area to taxi via T6 to taxiway left to runway 31 for takeoff. The captain slowly taxied up to the runway 31 approach hold line. I told the captain 'you need to hold short of that line.' he said 'no you don't, it is a CAT ii hold short line.' I said 'no, you can't taxi past, it is a runway 31 approach hold short line -- you can't go past!!!' he said 'it is not mandatory.' I said 'it is mandatory! I have read it from commercial materials and the FAA!' he didn't believe me. He slowly kept creeping forward. I begged him to stop! He finally did, with the nose 5 ft past runway 31 approach hold line. I told him 'I have heard bna chew other pilots out for going past that line.' bna and aus are the only ones I knew that had this. This approach 31 hole line is not at all close to the runway in any way, so caused no conflict. Ground and tower said nothing to us. He said we would discuss this in the air. So in cruise, we looked it up with an FAA publication I had with me, plus used the commercial chart notes on it. After he read all, he agreed that I was correct. He never knew it. I did my very best to keep us holding short of that line. And to make it clear, it was the approach runway 31 hold short line, not the runway 31 hold short line.
