Narrative:
Flight was descending on downwind to a visual approach into lax. I was the PNF. Our assigned runway was runway 6R. When the captain rolled out on final, we were slightly south of runway 7R and about 6-7 mi out. He had started to correct back when the controller asked if we were heading to runway 6R. I indicated that we were, thinking the south complex runways 7L/right was where we wanted to go. ATC then told us to turn north immediately for runway 6R, as a B747 had just departed runway 25R opposite direction. We complied with his instructions and landed on runway 6R with no further incident.
