Narrative:
Student started to cross hold short lines when no clearance was received. I was preoccupied with the door latch and didn't notice the error until after the plane was across. Then we contacted the tower and received proper clearance. Although we didn't enter in between the runway edges the infraction was inexcusable and better situational awareness could have prevented this occurrence. This was both my student's and my error.
