Narrative:
We were departing sea on the mountain 5 SID. When we reached 4000 ft, we started our turn outbound to join our route. We misinterped the SID, and turned out (right) before we reached 8 DME as per the SID. Departure control reminded us, and we corrected. We had departed from runway 34R, and should have briefed each other better on the SID.
