Narrative:
Engine #1 start normal. During engine #2 start rapidly rising egt spiked to 803 degrees C during shutdown. Checklist was run, and another attempt was made. Engine start normal. For some reason 930 degrees C stuck in my head as the maximum egt, not 725 degrees maximum start egt. Based on this, we continued to pdx. The mix-up in limit figures was inadvertent. We would have had not continued the flight had we realized that the engine start limit had been exceeded. After arrival at las, we realized that the start limit had been exceeded. After arrival at las, we realized that the start limit had been exceeded, and filed this report, contacted maintenance and management. It was unintentional that we continued, as we did not realize at that point that the start egt had been exceeded.
