On descent through 6000 ft, first officer flying, leading edge in-transit light illuminated with #1 slat extended on overhead panel. No aircraft upset and slat visually confirmed up (approximately 240 KIAS) configured on speed with all other indications normal. Delay resulted in less than stabilized VMC criteria at 500 ft, 15 KIAS hot, 1 DOT high to reach standards shortly thereafter.
