Narrative:
We were cleared for takeoff runway 35 at sps with a left turn to 280 degrees and a climb to 2300 ft. After rotation, we continued to climb, retracted the gear and then started a turn. As we turned to the assigned heading, we retracted flaps. 2 T38 jets in left traffic for runway 33L came across our nose, from right to left. The captain stopped the climb just above 2000 ft MSL as we got a traffic alert from our TCASII. Exact separation is unclr, but it was obvious that the T38 appeared to be below the 2800 ft pattern for runway 33L traffic. As we departed the area, we advised tower of our conflict. Tower responded by indicating that they were not in contact with the 2 T38 trainers and that the T38's were UHF with a separate runway 33L controller.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: CPR BIZJET AND FLT OF 2 MIL T38'S HAD LESS THAN COMFORTABLE SEPARATION IN SPS CLASS D AIRSPACE.
Narrative: WE WERE CLRED FOR TKOF RWY 35 AT SPS WITH A L TURN TO 280 DEGS AND A CLB TO 2300 FT. AFTER ROTATION, WE CONTINUED TO CLB, RETRACTED THE GEAR AND THEN STARTED A TURN. AS WE TURNED TO THE ASSIGNED HDG, WE RETRACTED FLAPS. 2 T38 JETS IN L TFC FOR RWY 33L CAME ACROSS OUR NOSE, FROM R TO L. THE CAPT STOPPED THE CLB JUST ABOVE 2000 FT MSL AS WE GOT A TFC ALERT FROM OUR TCASII. EXACT SEPARATION IS UNCLR, BUT IT WAS OBVIOUS THAT THE T38 APPEARED TO BE BELOW THE 2800 FT PATTERN FOR RWY 33L TFC. AS WE DEPARTED THE AREA, WE ADVISED TWR OF OUR CONFLICT. TWR RESPONDED BY INDICATING THAT THEY WERE NOT IN CONTACT WITH THE 2 T38 TRAINERS AND THAT THE T38'S WERE UHF WITH A SEPARATE RWY 33L CTLR.
