Narrative:
Location: stl airport. After landing on runway 12R, tower told us to clear at taxiway H and contact ground. We cleared at taxiway H and stopped short of taxiway a. Before we could contact ground, tower gave us a phone number and asked us to call supervisor. Supervisor asked why we didn't turn onto taxiway a. He said we almost caused a controller event. I told him we never turn onto an active taxiway without instructions. I thought my tail was clear of runway 12R. He said my tail was clear, but I should automatically turn onto taxiway a. I told him that his instructions should have been clear at taxiway H, right turn on taxiway a, contact ground. He said that was only for new carriers -- and we should do that without instruction. He felt I was deliberately trying to cause an incident and asked why I wasn't trying to help him out.

Title: MD80 CREW ON ROLLOUT AFTER LNDG STL AND TURN OFF ON TXWY H AS INSTRUCTED, BUT STOPPED BEFORE COMPLETELY CLR OF THE RWY.
Narrative: LOCATION: STL ARPT. AFTER LNDG ON RWY 12R, TWR TOLD US TO CLR AT TXWY H AND CONTACT GND. WE CLRED AT TXWY H AND STOPPED SHORT OF TXWY A. BEFORE WE COULD CONTACT GND, TWR GAVE US A PHONE NUMBER AND ASKED US TO CALL SUPVR. SUPVR ASKED WHY WE DIDN'T TURN ONTO TXWY A. HE SAID WE ALMOST CAUSED A CTLR EVENT. I TOLD HIM WE NEVER TURN ONTO AN ACTIVE TXWY WITHOUT INSTRUCTIONS. I THOUGHT MY TAIL WAS CLR OF RWY 12R. HE SAID MY TAIL WAS CLR, BUT I SHOULD AUTOMATICALLY TURN ONTO TXWY A. I TOLD HIM THAT HIS INSTRUCTIONS SHOULD HAVE BEEN CLR AT TXWY H, R TURN ON TXWY A, CONTACT GND. HE SAID THAT WAS ONLY FOR NEW CARRIERS -- AND WE SHOULD DO THAT WITHOUT INSTRUCTION. HE FELT I WAS DELIBERATELY TRYING TO CAUSE AN INCIDENT AND ASKED WHY I WASN'T TRYING TO HELP HIM OUT.
