Narrative:

There was a normal taxiout and takeoff. We climbed to about 17000 ft when I and my co-worker heard a noise followed by the aircraft's left engine being shut down. Communication was established with the cockpit by all 3 crew members. Captain advised of the test criteria. Planned emergency was not to be done, and ground evacuate/evacuation with slides would not be needed. All went according to that plan, and after a chkout from emergency personnel at dfw, we taxied to the gate without incident.
