Narrative:
Engine failure with subsequent diversion. Mild vibration noted during climb shortly before leveloff at FL330. Approximately 2 mins after leveloff, right engine surged several times and compressor stalled along with very erratic N1 indication and decreasing oil quantity. Right engine shut down per engine fire damage shutdown emergency checklist. Emergency immediately declared and diversion made to nearest suitable airport (txx). Flight attendants immediately briefed for immediate landing. Appropriate PA's made and crash fire rescue equipment equipment notified and standing by upon landing. Landed 129800 pounds with normal touchdown. Maximum autobrakes on runway 23 txx. Crash fire rescue equipment followed and inspected aircraft and observed large quantity of oil on right engine cowl. We determined evacuate/evacuation not warranted. Taxied to the ramp. Passenger deplaned via aft airstairs. Consulted with dispatch/maintenance controller and filed appropriate reports.

Title: MD80 CREW HAD #2 ENG FAILURE IN ZFW CLASS A AIRSPACE.
Narrative: ENG FAILURE WITH SUBSEQUENT DIVERSION. MILD VIBRATION NOTED DURING CLB SHORTLY BEFORE LEVELOFF AT FL330. APPROX 2 MINS AFTER LEVELOFF, R ENG SURGED SEVERAL TIMES AND COMPRESSOR STALLED ALONG WITH VERY ERRATIC N1 INDICATION AND DECREASING OIL QUANTITY. R ENG SHUT DOWN PER ENG FIRE DAMAGE SHUTDOWN EMER CHKLIST. EMER IMMEDIATELY DECLARED AND DIVERSION MADE TO NEAREST SUITABLE ARPT (TXX). FLT ATTENDANTS IMMEDIATELY BRIEFED FOR IMMEDIATE LNDG. APPROPRIATE PA'S MADE AND CFR EQUIP NOTIFIED AND STANDING BY UPON LNDG. LANDED 129800 LBS WITH NORMAL TOUCHDOWN. MAX AUTOBRAKES ON RWY 23 TXX. CFR FOLLOWED AND INSPECTED ACFT AND OBSERVED LARGE QUANTITY OF OIL ON R ENG COWL. WE DETERMINED EVAC NOT WARRANTED. TAXIED TO THE RAMP. PAX DEPLANED VIA AFT AIRSTAIRS. CONSULTED WITH DISPATCH/MAINT CTLR AND FILED APPROPRIATE RPTS.
