Narrative:
Shortly after takeoff, everyone's ears popped at the same time. Then I heard the chimes ringing a few times. First thing I thought of was a decompression, but realized we were still at too low an altitude for the masks to drop. Then the cockpit called and said that the landing gear would not go up and that we would be going back to XXX. We landed safely and deplaning was normal.
