Narrative:
Level at FL220, approximately 1 hour into the flight, a smell of hot plastic or wiring was noticed on the flight deck. The captain placed on his mask and directed me to do the same. At this time, our flight attendant called forward to let us know that a passenger clearance delivery player had shorted out. The clearance delivery player was placed in a container and secured. The flight attendants had noticed the passenger playing his clearance delivery player from the time they announced it was safe to use approved electronic devices. The smell was no longer noticeable, and the flight was continued to dfw.
