Narrative:
We were shooting a practice ILS into yakina air field. I was on my cfii check ride and teaching the examiner how to circle to another runway. About on a 3 mi final, tower instructed us to circle to the north of runway 9/27 and report left midfield downwind. On the circle, the examiner and I were talking about how to circle-to-land. There were 2 other aircraft on different patterns. I forgot to report midfield downwind, and we continued to circle. On short final, we saw another aircraft go right in front of us to land. We started to make a left 360 degree turn for spacing. Tower informed us of our mistake. We were distraction by an aircraft on runway that was stopped and looking for the taxiway. Cause of the incident was not reporting downwind and not spending enough time outside cockpit looking for traffic. Tower instructed me to call him on the phone when I got home. I did call and had a talk with the controller.
