Narrative:

A BE10 departed bob sikes airport at crestview, fl, on an IFR flight to south florida. The nse ASR-8 radar antenna did not begin tracking the aircraft until the aircraft was 11 mi southeast of bob sikes airport, climbing out of 7700 ft MSL. With numerous military restr areas, and military operations areas to help the pilot avoid, this radar coverage is unacceptable. Pensacola TRACON is tentatively scheduled to receive a feed off of the eglin ASR-11 radar in june 2003. This should provide a better presentation and coverage of the areas pensacola TRACON must provide ATC services for on late night shifts and weekends.
