Narrative:

While in cruise at FL370, 1 hour 5 mins into the flight from sjc-teb, we encountered severe wake turbulence from an airliner (unknown type) 12 mi ahead of us at same altitude. The event was immediate (no warning) and severe causing the aircraft to roll (30-45 degrees) violently and sustained negative g-forces for approximately 2-3 seconds, and a loss of altitude of 300 ft. Recovery maneuver caused a gain of +200 ft (FL372). Total event time line approximately 10 seconds. Altitude and event were reported to ATC. Offset routing was then requested. Minor injury of 1 passenger who was unbelted and hit ceiling, then floor of aircraft, bruising tail bone. Seatbelt sign placed 'on' at first opportunity. Remainder of flight uneventful.
