Narrative:
A dash-8-300 aircraft came to routine overnight check maintenance with the APU MEL. I installed the APU test box and troubleshot the system. The esu (engine sequence unit) was determined to be the cause of the malfunction. I order the esu and maintenance computer showed the part as nis. Maintenance computer also had a note which I interpreted as giving an alternate part number. I was not sure I was interpreting the note correctly, so I asked my lead to read the note and what he thought it meant. The dash-8-300 aircraft uses a 303 esu and has a b-model APU. The note refers to a 600 series esu. I interpreted the note to indicate that it was now ok to place a 600 series esu on the b-model APU. This note should be rephrased or removed from maintenance computer. Without this note in maintenance computer I would not have considered placing a 600 series esu on a b-model APU, because of the part number in note in the maintenance manual.
