Narrative:
On nov/xa/01 I was captain of air carrier X airlines flight XXXX from ZZZ1 to ZZZ2. The aircraft we were flying was aircraft X. This aircraft had a maintenance write-up entry in the aircraft logbook for an inoperative cockpit door safety dead bolt latch that wouldn't close properly. It was written in the logbook as 'this item does not affect airworthiness' as per maintenance control in our headquarters. This item was not to be found in our aircraft MEL. Later that day the company supervisor informed me that the item in question was a 'no fly' item and the aircraft should have been grounded until that item was repaired.
