Narrative:
During the preflight preparation, the existence of the tfr at disneyland theme park, and procedures to avoid entering this airspace, were thoroughly considered and duly noted. And since I am based at sna airport, a lot of the flying that I do is near this particular tfr. I am quite familiar with its dimension, also the consequences that could arise from an unauthorized entry into this airspace. While en route, I maneuvered around (in my estimation and according to ground references at least 3 NM to the east and northeast) the tfr as planned. After completing the flight at sna the tower controller advised me to call socal approach control regarding a possible pilot deviation. Socal approach informed me that the us customs service, which apparently provides radar coverage over the disneyland theme park tfr, observed me to be inside the tfr. Socal approach also told me that they would create a radar plot in order to prove whether I was within the tfr or not. And if proof existed that I was within the tfr, they would forward this information to the FSDO for enforcement action. Pilots that plan on operating in the near vicinity of a tfr or any other high priority airspace should advise ATC in advance, in order to avoid any confusion or worries by ATC and pilot.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: AFTER ROUND ROBIN FLT, LNDG AT SNA, HELI PLT ADVISED THAT HE VIOLATED THE DISNEYLAND THEME PARK TFR.
Narrative: DURING THE PREFLT PREPARATION, THE EXISTENCE OF THE TFR AT DISNEYLAND THEME PARK, AND PROCS TO AVOID ENTERING THIS AIRSPACE, WERE THOROUGHLY CONSIDERED AND DULY NOTED. AND SINCE I AM BASED AT SNA ARPT, A LOT OF THE FLYING THAT I DO IS NEAR THIS PARTICULAR TFR. I AM QUITE FAMILIAR WITH ITS DIMENSION, ALSO THE CONSEQUENCES THAT COULD ARISE FROM AN UNAUTHORIZED ENTRY INTO THIS AIRSPACE. WHILE ENRTE, I MANEUVERED AROUND (IN MY ESTIMATION AND ACCORDING TO GND REFERENCES AT LEAST 3 NM TO THE E AND NE) THE TFR AS PLANNED. AFTER COMPLETING THE FLT AT SNA THE TWR CTLR ADVISED ME TO CALL SOCAL APCH CTL REGARDING A POSSIBLE PLT DEVIATION. SOCAL APCH INFORMED ME THAT THE US CUSTOMS SERVICE, WHICH APPARENTLY PROVIDES RADAR COVERAGE OVER THE DISNEYLAND THEME PARK TFR, OBSERVED ME TO BE INSIDE THE TFR. SOCAL APCH ALSO TOLD ME THAT THEY WOULD CREATE A RADAR PLOT IN ORDER TO PROVE WHETHER I WAS WITHIN THE TFR OR NOT. AND IF PROOF EXISTED THAT I WAS WITHIN THE TFR, THEY WOULD FORWARD THIS INFO TO THE FSDO FOR ENFORCEMENT ACTION. PLTS THAT PLAN ON OPERATING IN THE NEAR VICINITY OF A TFR OR ANY OTHER HIGH PRIORITY AIRSPACE SHOULD ADVISE ATC IN ADVANCE, IN ORDER TO AVOID ANY CONFUSION OR WORRIES BY ATC AND PLT.
