Narrative:
On taxi out from mco, our clearance was 'taxi to runway 18L via taxiway C.' we acknowledged. We called ready for takeoff approaching runway 18L. At the end of runway 18L, we were instructed to 'hold short of runway 18L, traffic turning final.' we replied 'hold short of runway 18L, air carrier X.' the next clearance we heard was, 'air carrier X, traffic to cross runway 18L/18R, position and hold.' we read back, 'position and hold runway 18L, air carrier X.' we taxied into position runway 18L. 30 seconds later, tower said 'air carrier X, confirm you are taxiing across runway 18L.' we replied, 'negative, we are holding runway 18L.' there was an aircraft on short final for runway 18L. Tower instructed us to taxi clear of runway 18L at taxiway B2, which we did, and instructed the aircraft on final to go around. The controllers (ground and tower) never changed our departure runway on taxi out and so our last clearance we had for takeoff was runway 18L. When we were cleared for takeoff later on runway 18L, we heard the tower clear the aircraft holding #1 for runway 18L to 'taxi across runway 18L, runway 18R position and hold.'

Narrative: ON TAXI OUT FROM MCO, OUR CLRNC WAS 'TAXI TO RWY 18L VIA TXWY C.' WE ACKNOWLEDGED. WE CALLED READY FOR TKOF APCHING RWY 18L. AT THE END OF RWY 18L, WE WERE INSTRUCTED TO 'HOLD SHORT OF RWY 18L, TFC TURNING FINAL.' WE REPLIED 'HOLD SHORT OF RWY 18L, ACR X.' THE NEXT CLRNC WE HEARD WAS, 'ACR X, TFC TO CROSS RWY 18L/18R, POS AND HOLD.' WE READ BACK, 'POS AND HOLD RWY 18L, ACR X.' WE TAXIED INTO POS RWY 18L. 30 SECONDS LATER, TWR SAID 'ACR X, CONFIRM YOU ARE TAXIING ACROSS RWY 18L.' WE REPLIED, 'NEGATIVE, WE ARE HOLDING RWY 18L.' THERE WAS AN ACFT ON SHORT FINAL FOR RWY 18L. TWR INSTRUCTED US TO TAXI CLR OF RWY 18L AT TXWY B2, WHICH WE DID, AND INSTRUCTED THE ACFT ON FINAL TO GO AROUND. THE CTLRS (GND AND TWR) NEVER CHANGED OUR DEP RWY ON TAXI OUT AND SO OUR LAST CLRNC WE HAD FOR TKOF WAS RWY 18L. WHEN WE WERE CLRED FOR TKOF LATER ON RWY 18L, WE HEARD THE TWR CLR THE ACFT HOLDING #1 FOR RWY 18L TO 'TAXI ACROSS RWY 18L, RWY 18R POS AND HOLD.'
