Narrative:

Working on a book on the appalachian trail which involves many aerial photographs. Monday morning, I call jyo FSS to check on NOTAMS and especially status of camp david tfr. Was told 10 mile tfr lifted sunday and only 5 mile tfr in effect. Was especially concerned as several potential photo sites are close to camp david. The closet is called black rock. It is about 25 miles from camp david's tfr. We departed winchester and flew to pine knob another potential photo site. Using my GPS we flew to the pine knob coordinates, but nothing resembled pine knob. I called up black rock's position and found it was south of us instead of north. Turned around and flew to black rock. Found it and 3 other sites with no difficulty. Us customs intercepted us as we approached carroll, co. On the ground, we were informed about the tfr penetration. At first I didn't believe we had entered. Later analysis showed that we must have. I still have to return to that area within the next several weeks. I will file a VFR flight plan with FSS and also get the controlling frequency for that area so that I can stay in touch with them. Still do not know for sure that I was within tfr (TRACON says yes). Certainly was not intentional! If there is a GPS anomaly in that area -- should be in a NOTAM (no mention by FSS). Also plan to use a special GPS just to make sure I am outside camp david's tfr.

Title: PLT OF PA18 FLEW INTO PROHIBITED AREA DURING PHOTO FLT.

USING MY GPS WE FLEW TO THE PINE KNOB COORDINATES, BUT NOTHING RESEMBLED PINE KNOB. I CALLED UP BLACK ROCK'S POSITION AND FOUND IT WAS S OF US INSTEAD OF N. TURNED AROUND AND FLEW TO BLACK ROCK. FOUND IT AND 3 OTHER SITES WITH NO DIFFICULTY. US CUSTOMS INTERCEPTED US AS WE APCHED CARROLL, CO. ON THE GND, WE WERE INFORMED ABOUT THE TFR PENETRATION. AT FIRST I DIDN'T BELIEVE WE HAD ENTERED. CERTAINLY WAS NOT INTENTIONAL! IF THERE IS A GPS ANOMALY IN THAT AREA -- SHOULD BE IN A NOTAM (NO MENTION BY FSS). ALSO PLAN TO USE A SPECIAL GPS JUST TO MAKE SURE I AM OUTSIDE CAMP DAVID'S TFR.
