Narrative:
We were given taxi instructions 'taxi to runway 27 via taxiway B, taxiway K, taxiway C, taxiway D, hold short of runway 4R.' I wrote down the instructions and read them back verbatim. As we taxied, I started to read the taxi checklist, as requested by the captain. At 'takeoff briefing,' I commenced my briefing, which required me to look inside to set/verify thrust, flap, anti-ice, airspeed, altitude, heading bugs/FMS/course settings. At the completion of my briefing, I looked up and noticed that we had passed runway 4R on taxiway C. I told the captain that we should have stopped at runway 4R, and he acknowledged missing that part of the taxi instructions. I should have completed the bulk of the briefing at the gate. We had the time. Primarily, I should have insured that the captain and I both understood the clearance. Had I done that, we would have stopped in time. Nevertheless, when my head is down during taxiing, I will announce that 'I'm inside,' so that the captain knows he's the only one looking for traffic and taxiway markings.

Title: RWY INCURSION WHEN A COMMUTER JET FLT CREW CROSSES THE ACTIVE RWY 4R WITHOUT CLRNC AT BOS, MA.
Narrative: WE WERE GIVEN TAXI INSTRUCTIONS 'TAXI TO RWY 27 VIA TXWY B, TXWY K, TXWY C, TXWY D, HOLD SHORT OF RWY 4R.' I WROTE DOWN THE INSTRUCTIONS AND READ THEM BACK VERBATIM. AS WE TAXIED, I STARTED TO READ THE TAXI CHKLIST, AS REQUESTED BY THE CAPT. AT 'TKOF BRIEFING,' I COMMENCED MY BRIEFING, WHICH REQUIRED ME TO LOOK INSIDE TO SET/VERIFY THRUST, FLAP, ANTI-ICE, AIRSPD, ALT, HDG BUGS/FMS/COURSE SETTINGS. AT THE COMPLETION OF MY BRIEFING, I LOOKED UP AND NOTICED THAT WE HAD PASSED RWY 4R ON TXWY C. I TOLD THE CAPT THAT WE SHOULD HAVE STOPPED AT RWY 4R, AND HE ACKNOWLEDGED MISSING THAT PART OF THE TAXI INSTRUCTIONS. I SHOULD HAVE COMPLETED THE BULK OF THE BRIEFING AT THE GATE. WE HAD THE TIME. PRIMARILY, I SHOULD HAVE INSURED THAT THE CAPT AND I BOTH UNDERSTOOD THE CLRNC. HAD I DONE THAT, WE WOULD HAVE STOPPED IN TIME. NEVERTHELESS, WHEN MY HEAD IS DOWN DURING TAXIING, I WILL ANNOUNCE THAT 'I'M INSIDE,' SO THAT THE CAPT KNOWS HE'S THE ONLY ONE LOOKING FOR TFC AND TXWY MARKINGS.
