My employer has established a new sick leave policy that, for all practical purposes, forces pilots to fly while sick. In the past few months, company pilots have taken actual pay cuts of 45% or more. The pilots' pension has been changed to a defined contribution plan. This is actually not a safety issue, because most of us need a full paycheck to get along since the massive cuts. This is not an airplane specific safety event (yet), but I guarantee, pilots at this company will now routinely be flying while sick. This has real potential for causing an accident or incident in the near future.

IN THE PAST FEW MONTHS, COMPANY PLTS HAVE TAKEN ACTUAL PAY CUTS OF 45% OR MORE. THE PLTS' PENSION HAS BEEN CHANGED TO A DEFINED CONTRIBUTION PLAN. THIS IS ACTUALLY NOT A SAFETY ISSUE, BECAUSE MOST OF US NEED A FULL PAYCHECK TO GET ALONG SINCE THE MASSIVE CUTS. THIS IS NOT AN AIRPLANE SPECIFIC SAFETY EVENT (YET), BUT I GUARANTEE, PLTS AT THIS COMPANY WILL NOW ROUTINELY BE FLYING WHILE SICK. THIS HAS REAL POTENTIAL FOR CAUSING AN ACCIDENT OR INCIDENT IN THE NEAR FUTURE.
