Narrative:
Holding short, #1 for takeoff for runway 22L at ZZZ, at approximately XA14 on may/sun/03, we saw a small balloon drifting across the runway toward us. It blew underneath the nose, drifting to our right and we lost sight of it. We noted no changes on the engine instruments, but queried the air carrier Y behind us. They reported seeing debris come out #2 engine. We informed tower and parked in the run-up pad until we had coordinated with maintenance. We returned to the gate area for a visual inspection by station maintenance. Engine remained in idle until shutdown on taxi back for inspection. After visual inspection (maintenance reported debris came out of engine as we parked), station maintenance cleared us. We contacted maintenance for clearance to proceed. After approval, we restarted #2, taxied and flew remainder of flight uneventful. No engine deviations noted. Engineering note entered in logbook.
