Narrative:
We were cleared to taxi to runway 17L. Approaching runway 17L I realized there were 2 hold short lines. I decided to take a conservative measure and hold short of the one furthest back. My first officer inquired tower about the non-standard marking and he said they use one for larger aircraft and that it didn't matter which one I use. I cannot believe the FAA allows this. These are non-standard markings and make it hard to determine (especially in low visibility) where to hold short of an active runway.
