Narrative:
Approximately XA00 received takeoff clearance from crq tower on runway 24 with right downwind exit from pattern. Uneventful departure, WX very hazy at twilight, proceeded downwind climbing to 1800 ft. Proceeded east for approximately 2 NM, then started turn ese toward rnm. In process I crossed the extended centerline of crq runway 24 which was being used for ILS approachs. ASOS calling 1900 ft overcast and visibility 10 mi at the time. After crossing extended centerline, tower called and asked for immediate south turn for traffic. I complied, however did have a king air in sight inbound on the ILS. Tower controller asked we not cross his centerline in the future. I advised that I understood and would not. This may have resulted in reduced separation for the IFR traffic. I should have requested a left downwind departure to facilitate not having to cross centerline. Will do so if this happens again.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: BE60 PLT CROSSES EXTENDED CTRLINE OF RWY CAUSING REDUCED TFC SEPARATION DURING ILS APCH AT CRQ.
Narrative: APPROX XA00 RECEIVED TKOF CLRNC FROM CRQ TWR ON RWY 24 WITH R DOWNWIND EXIT FROM PATTERN. UNEVENTFUL DEP, WX VERY HAZY AT TWILIGHT, PROCEEDED DOWNWIND CLBING TO 1800 FT. PROCEEDED E FOR APPROX 2 NM, THEN STARTED TURN ESE TOWARD RNM. IN PROCESS I CROSSED THE EXTENDED CTRLINE OF CRQ RWY 24 WHICH WAS BEING USED FOR ILS APCHS. ASOS CALLING 1900 FT OVCST AND VISIBILITY 10 MI AT THE TIME. AFTER XING EXTENDED CTRLINE, TWR CALLED AND ASKED FOR IMMEDIATE S TURN FOR TFC. I COMPLIED, HOWEVER DID HAVE A KING AIR IN SIGHT INBOUND ON THE ILS. TWR CTLR ASKED WE NOT CROSS HIS CTRLINE IN THE FUTURE. I ADVISED THAT I UNDERSTOOD AND WOULD NOT. THIS MAY HAVE RESULTED IN REDUCED SEPARATION FOR THE IFR TFC. I SHOULD HAVE REQUESTED A L DOWNWIND DEP TO FACILITATE NOT HAVING TO CROSS CTRLINE. WILL DO SO IF THIS HAPPENS AGAIN.
