Narrative:
As I began to taxi I realized that the nosewheel steering switch was still off and while moving forward I turned the switch on and immediately the aircraft made a hard turn to the right which I could not correct and had to stop the aircraft quickly. Unfortunately, a flight attendant was knocked down and hurt her shoulder. We returned to the gate and the emt were called to attend to her. She was released to the care of her doctor. I notified the dispatcher of what had happened and phone patched the flight duty manager. We also contacted maintenance controller to have the aircraft inspected prior to departing. The sna supervisor contacted the flight attendant supervisor and conferred to release her to come home. A reserve flight attendant was called to work the flight. The aircraft was inspected and released. No further incidents occurred.
