Narrative:
Unfamiliar with airport. Was instructed to taxi to runway 24. No sign on west and of ramp giving direction to taxi. Took wrong taxiway. Tower was busy, didn't notice my mistake. When I got to runway 24, asked if I was supposed to back-taxi on runway 24. I must have been beyond hold line, was told to get off runway (runway 24 was active, but no traffic at the time). Had trouble initially getting instructions from ground control on how to comply satisfactorily with their request. Any move I made seemed to be wrong. Lesson -- I had a map of the txwys in the plane, I hadn't studied it well enough.
