Narrative:
I was relieving another controller on departure radar west with my trainee. During the position relief briefing, separation was lost between 2 aircraft inbound. It was not my or the trainee's error but the relieving controller who did not ensure separation.

Narrative: I WAS RELIEVING ANOTHER CTLR ON DEP RADAR W WITH MY TRAINEE. DURING THE POS RELIEF BRIEFING, SEPARATION WAS LOST BTWN 2 ACFT INBOUND. IT WAS NOT MY OR THE TRAINEE'S ERROR BUT THE RELIEVING CTLR WHO DID NOT ENSURE SEPARATION.
