Narrative:
On teb 5 departure, runway 24, departure procedure calls for aircraft to level off at 1500 ft until 4.5 DME. We climbed to 1800 ft inside of 4.5 DME until prompted by ATC to maintain 1800 ft. The radios were busy and cockpit workload was relatively high. I realized something was incorrect as we passed 1500 ft, but by the time I handled ATC calls and attempted to point out our altitude, we were already at 1800 ft. The departure procedure was correctly briefed, but the multiple instruction given to us by ATC shortly after takeoff led us to this distraction.
