Narrative:

In the climb phase of flight, the #1 engine failed. At 4800 ft a loud bang was heard. The engine stopped operation. High egt was indicated. The first officer continued to fly the aircraft. SOP procedures were followed. ECAM items were completed, and the engine was shut down. ATC was notified of the event. An emergency was declared. Prepared for emergency landing, as per SOP. Landed without incident. No evacuation took place. Supplemental information from acn 585412: captain and cabin crew performed extremely well.
