Narrative:
Contacted cvg tower for landing clearance, 'aircraft X cleared to land runway 18R. One departure prior to your landing' was given. Aircraft on runway was cleared for takeoff. Acceleration was slow. Departure aircraft was about 7000 ft into roll. Tower then states, 'aircraft Y go around. It's too late. Climb runway heading to 3000 ft.' departure aircraft rotated and cleared runway. About 10 seconds later we touched down. There was no response from aircraft Y. As we slowed to taxi speed, tower said turn left on taxiway K and say flight number for aircraft exiting runway 18R.' I replied 'aircraft X.' then he said to contact ground. After some discussion with the first officer, I called back on tower frequency. I asked if there was a problem. Tower stated 'no it all worked out.' approaching to parallel runways are common. Had the controller said 'aircraft X,' we would not have hesitated to go around. However simultaneous departures occur from runway 27 crossing runway 18R. We did not question controller because, although close, we felt the landing could be made safely.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: CL65 LANDS AT CVG WITH MINIMUM SEPARATION FROM DEP ACFT.
Narrative: CONTACTED CVG TWR FOR LNDG CLRNC, 'ACFT X CLRED TO LAND RWY 18R. ONE DEP PRIOR TO YOUR LNDG' WAS GIVEN. ACFT ON RWY WAS CLRED FOR TKOF. ACCELERATION WAS SLOW. DEP ACFT WAS ABOUT 7000 FT INTO ROLL. TWR THEN STATES, 'ACFT Y GO AROUND. IT'S TOO LATE. CLB RWY HEADING TO 3000 FT.' DEP ACFT ROTATED AND CLRED RWY. ABOUT 10 SECONDS LATER WE TOUCHED DOWN. THERE WAS NO RESPONSE FROM ACFT Y. AS WE SLOWED TO TAXI SPD, TWR SAID TURN L ON TXWY K AND SAY FLT NUMBER FOR ACFT EXITING RWY 18R.' I REPLIED 'ACFT X.' THEN HE SAID TO CONTACT GND. AFTER SOME DISCUSSION WITH THE FO, I CALLED BACK ON TWR FREQ. I ASKED IF THERE WAS A PROB. TWR STATED 'NO IT ALL WORKED OUT.' APCHING TO PARALLEL RWYS ARE COMMON. HAD THE CTLR SAID 'ACFT X,' WE WOULD NOT HAVE HESITATED TO GO AROUND. HOWEVER SIMULTANEOUS DEPS OCCUR FROM RWY 27 XING RWY 18R. WE DID NOT QUESTION CTLR BECAUSE, ALTHOUGH CLOSE, WE FELT THE LNDG COULD BE MADE SAFELY.
