Narrative:

It was windy and turbulence on arrival. First officer was flying. The flight was held up at 11000 ft for crossing traffic. Captain (being a line check airman, and used to seeing this common error by PNF) watched and hinted about first officer keeping speed up at 300 KTS until cleared to descend. First officer was slow to recognize his high speed/high altitude combination. First officer was also slow to lower gear and complete before landing checklist prior to FAF. It was very windy, and it was decided to keep some speed and land with 25 degree flaps rather than 30 degrees, but captain did not change MCP airspeed bug. Aircraft was on GS by 1000 ft AGL, but was 30 KTS fast. The runway was long, and the wind helped, and we were both tired and were anxious to get on the ground. Approach was thoroughly debriefed at the gate, and it was decided we should have gone around, but didn't.

Narrative: IT WAS WINDY AND TURB ON ARR. FO WAS FLYING. THE FLT WAS HELD UP AT 11000 FT FOR XING TFC. CAPT (BEING A LINE CHK AIRMAN, AND USED TO SEEING THIS COMMON ERROR BY PNF) WATCHED AND HINTED ABOUT FO KEEPING SPD UP AT 300 KTS UNTIL CLRED TO DSND. FO WAS SLOW TO RECOGNIZE HIS HIGH SPD/HIGH ALT COMBINATION. FO WAS ALSO SLOW TO LOWER GEAR AND COMPLETE BEFORE LNDG CHKLIST PRIOR TO FAF. IT WAS VERY WINDY, AND IT WAS DECIDED TO KEEP SOME SPD AND LAND WITH 25 DEG FLAPS RATHER THAN 30 DEGS, BUT CAPT DID NOT CHANGE MCP AIRSPD BUG. ACFT WAS ON GS BY 1000 FT AGL, BUT WAS 30 KTS FAST. THE RWY WAS LONG, AND THE WIND HELPED, AND WE WERE BOTH TIRED AND WERE ANXIOUS TO GET ON THE GND.
