Narrative:

Holding at jimbe at 13000 ft for thunderstorms at dca. I was PF and working the ATC radios as the first officer was on the #2 radio talking to dispatch about our plans to divert to orf. As I was coordinating with ZDC about a clearance to orf, we were cleared up the irons arrival as dca was now accepting traffic and handed off to approach. I checked in with potomac approach. I think that I may have not used the password in my check-in. Approach said to expect runway 1 and vectored us to final. When first officer got back into the loop, I briefed him on the plan for the approach, and when doing the checklist and approach brief is when I thought that I did not use the password. We used password in the next ATC transmission. Landed uneventfully at dca.
