Narrative:
After arriving, the engineer lowered the aft airstairs. The stairs dropped to the ground without hydraulic assistance. A logbook entry was made about the aft airstairs. A mechanic raised the aft airstairs manually and cleared the logbook discrepancy. I thought the aft airstairs were working normally. Upon arriving at the next destination the aft airstairs again dropped to the ground without hdy assistance. The aft airstairs should have been a deferred maintenance item instead of clearing the logbook.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A B727 WAS DISPATCHED IN NON COMPLIANCE WITH THE AFT AIRSTAIRS INOP. THE LOG ITEM STATED THE AIRSTAIRS DEPLOYED WITH NO HYD SNUBBING. LOG ITEM CLRED WITH NO MAINT ACTION.
Narrative: AFTER ARRIVING, THE ENGINEER LOWERED THE AFT AIRSTAIRS. THE STAIRS DROPPED TO THE GND WITHOUT HYD ASSISTANCE. A LOGBOOK ENTRY WAS MADE ABOUT THE AFT AIRSTAIRS. A MECH RAISED THE AFT AIRSTAIRS MANUALLY AND CLRED THE LOGBOOK DISCREPANCY. I THOUGHT THE AFT AIRSTAIRS WERE WORKING NORMALLY. UPON ARRIVING AT THE NEXT DEST THE AFT AIRSTAIRS AGAIN DROPPED TO THE GND WITHOUT HDY ASSISTANCE. THE AFT AIRSTAIRS SHOULD HAVE BEEN A DEFERRED MAINT ITEM INSTEAD OF CLRING THE LOGBOOK.
