Narrative:

Approaching vgt, I was held very high (5000 ft AGL) until about 4 mi from the airport. I was then cleared to land straight-in to runway 12R. I arrived over the threshold high and fast. I landed, but maximum braking stopped the aircraft at the end of the runway. There was no way to exit the runway except by taxiing between the runway end lights onto the paved overrun, doing a 180 degree turn, and then back onto the end of the runway where I exited onto a taxiway as per ATC instructions. I should have refused the landing clearance with the 'crow bar' descent, so that I did not need to use so much runway.

Title: BE55 PLT, ON AN IFR FLT PLAN, WENT OFF THE FAR END OF A 5000 FT RWY AFTER THE L30 APCH CTLR DID NOT CLR THE PLT FOR THE APCH UNTIL 4 MI FROM THE END OF THE RWY. THE ACFT WAS 5000 FT AGL AT THAT POINT.

Narrative: APCHING VGT, I WAS HELD VERY HIGH (5000 FT AGL) UNTIL ABOUT 4 MI FROM THE ARPT. I WAS THEN CLRED TO LAND STRAIGHT-IN TO RWY 12R. I ARRIVED OVER THE THRESHOLD HIGH AND FAST. I LANDED, BUT MAX BRAKING STOPPED THE ACFT AT THE END OF THE RWY. THERE WAS NO WAY TO EXIT THE RWY EXCEPT BY TAXIING BTWN THE RWY END LIGHTS ONTO THE PAVED OVERRUN, DOING A 180 DEG TURN, AND THEN BACK ONTO THE END OF THE RWY WHERE I EXITED ONTO A TXWY AS PER ATC INSTRUCTIONS. I SHOULD HAVE REFUSED THE LNDG CLRNC WITH THE 'CROW BAR' DSCNT, SO THAT I DID NOT NEED TO USE SO MUCH RWY.
