Narrative:
We were re-positioning our aircraft from van nuys california to long beach, california for maintenance. This was a scheduled inspection. I had a new first officer and was letting him fly the empty leg to long beach. We accepted our clearance, which was a long victor airways to long beach. While en route, I dialed in the wrong radial to fly from the VOR to the seal beach VOR. This allowed the aircraft to get into airspace where it should not have been. I was trying to train a new pilot on the aircraft when I should have been paying more attention to the navigation in such busy airspace. The corrective action is that I will not do any training in the aircraft in such busy airspace again. I will verify and re-check my radials and tuning from now on also.
