Narrative:
On climb out from cmh, talking to departure and cleared to 10000 ft, heading west after taking off from runway 28R. Controller called traffic at 1 O'clock position, and appears to be at 8000 ft. 'You might want to level off at 7500 ft until you can see him, sorry for the late call' (or words to that effect). We immediately got an RA, both audible and on the vsi. No traffic in sight. I told the first officer (PF) to come left and comply with the RA. We stop our climb (moderate pushover), begin a descent and are in a left turn to avoid the conflict. RA ceases and we finally see the small GA aircraft about 2-3 O'clock position, 1/2 mi or so to the right and approximately 500 ft above us. I tell the controller that we have the traffic and that it was pretty close. First officer did a good job of complying with the TA's.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A B737 FLT CREW RECEIVES A TCASII RA AT THE SAME TIME A DEP CTLR IDENTIFIED TFC.
Narrative: ON CLBOUT FROM CMH, TALKING TO DEP AND CLRED TO 10000 FT, HEADING W AFTER TAKING OFF FROM RWY 28R. CTLR CALLED TFC AT 1 O'CLOCK POS, AND APPEARS TO BE AT 8000 FT. 'YOU MIGHT WANT TO LEVEL OFF AT 7500 FT UNTIL YOU CAN SEE HIM, SORRY FOR THE LATE CALL' (OR WORDS TO THAT EFFECT). WE IMMEDIATELY GOT AN RA, BOTH AUDIBLE AND ON THE VSI. NO TFC IN SIGHT. I TOLD THE FO (PF) TO COME L AND COMPLY WITH THE RA. WE STOP OUR CLB (MODERATE PUSHOVER), BEGIN A DSCNT AND ARE IN A L TURN TO AVOID THE CONFLICT. RA CEASES AND WE FINALLY SEE THE SMALL GA ACFT ABOUT 2-3 O'CLOCK POS, 1/2 MI OR SO TO THE R AND APPROX 500 FT ABOVE US. I TELL THE CTLR THAT WE HAVE THE TFC AND THAT IT WAS PRETTY CLOSE. FO DID A GOOD JOB OF COMPLYING WITH THE TA'S.
