Primary Problem | ATC Human Performance |
Narrative:
50 mi northwest of den, ATC slowed us to 210 KTS at 14000 ft. They asked several times what our speed was. We said 210 KTS. ATC then slowed us to 170 KTS. They also left us at 11000 ft turning final for runway 16L, and vectored us through the runway 16L localizer, 5-7 mi from the FAF. We were inbound on the runway 16L localizer when a B737 came from the right, and got a TA from that aircraft. At this point, the controller was upset, like it was our fault for his poor job of vectoring other aircraft. He then switched us to runway 17R and we made a normal landing. I think the basic cause of this problem is den approach does too much training and there are not enough experienced controllers working there. ATC left us too high, too close to the airport, and made us fly through the localizer for runway 16L, and never said anything about the B737 he put in front of us. That day there was a tailwind at altitude which made our ground speed faster.

Title: CL65 EXPERIENCED TCASII TA DURING VISUAL APCH TO DEN.
Narrative: 50 MI NW OF DEN, ATC SLOWED US TO 210 KTS AT 14000 FT. THEY ASKED SEVERAL TIMES WHAT OUR SPD WAS. WE SAID 210 KTS. ATC THEN SLOWED US TO 170 KTS. THEY ALSO LEFT US AT 11000 FT TURNING FINAL FOR RWY 16L, AND VECTORED US THROUGH THE RWY 16L LOC, 5-7 MI FROM THE FAF. WE WERE INBOUND ON THE RWY 16L LOC WHEN A B737 CAME FROM THE R, AND GOT A TA FROM THAT ACFT. AT THIS POINT, THE CTLR WAS UPSET, LIKE IT WAS OUR FAULT FOR HIS POOR JOB OF VECTORING OTHER ACFT. HE THEN SWITCHED US TO RWY 17R AND WE MADE A NORMAL LNDG. I THINK THE BASIC CAUSE OF THIS PROB IS DEN APCH DOES TOO MUCH TRAINING AND THERE ARE NOT ENOUGH EXPERIENCED CTLRS WORKING THERE. ATC LEFT US TOO HIGH, TOO CLOSE TO THE ARPT, AND MADE US FLY THROUGH THE LOC FOR RWY 16L, AND NEVER SAID ANYTHING ABOUT THE B737 HE PUT IN FRONT OF US. THAT DAY THERE WAS A TAILWIND AT ALT WHICH MADE OUR GND SPD FASTER.
