Narrative:
Climbing from FL330 to FL370 on flight from den to pit, received the following ECAM warning: door, forward right cabin, followed by 'if abn cabin attendant vertical speed, maximum FL100 MEA.' took safest course of action by descending to 10000 ft and diverting to mci. 'Door warning light' went out after 10 mins in descent. Cabin pressure was normal. After landing, we discovered that we misinterped the airbus acronym 'abn.' we agreed in-flight that 'abn' meant 'airborne' instead of the airbus translation of 'abnormal.' landed uneventfully in mci where maintenance MEL'ed the door switch. (Note: the cabin door 1R handle proximity switch was replaced on oct/tue/03, for the same write-up.)598046 syn
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A320 CREW HAD AN ECAM WARNING 'DOOR, FORWARD R CABIN' FOLLOWED BY 'IF ABN CAB V-S: MAX FL100 MEA.' THE CREW INTERPRETED 'ABN' TO MEAN 'AIRBORNE' VERSUS THE AIRBUS MEANING OF 'ABNORMAL.'
Narrative: CLBING FROM FL330 TO FL370 ON FLT FROM DEN TO PIT, RECEIVED THE FOLLOWING ECAM WARNING: DOOR, FORWARD R CABIN, FOLLOWED BY 'IF ABN CAB VERT SPD, MAX FL100 MEA.' TOOK SAFEST COURSE OF ACTION BY DSNDING TO 10000 FT AND DIVERTING TO MCI. 'DOOR WARNING LIGHT' WENT OUT AFTER 10 MINS IN DSCNT. CABIN PRESSURE WAS NORMAL. AFTER LNDG, WE DISCOVERED THAT WE MISINTERPED THE AIRBUS ACRONYM 'ABN.' WE AGREED INFLT THAT 'ABN' MEANT 'AIRBORNE' INSTEAD OF THE AIRBUS TRANSLATION OF 'ABNORMAL.' LANDED UNEVENTFULLY IN MCI WHERE MAINT MEL'ED THE DOOR SWITCH. (NOTE: THE CABIN DOOR 1R HANDLE PROX SWITCH WAS REPLACED ON OCT/TUE/03, FOR THE SAME WRITE-UP.)598046 SYN
