Narrative:
We were cleared into position on runway 17R at intersection eh. As we rolled forward, we noticed an aircraft Y jet also going into position at the full length. We noticed the conflict and stopped just over the hold line. After tower realized the problem, they aborted aircraft Y's takeoff. They gave us clearance to taxi onto the runway and off at taxiway Y. This situation occurred due to many factors: aircraft cleared for takeoff at full length, we were cleared into position before the aircraft Y had departed, we could not see aircraft Y because there was an aircraft between us and it was night. Also, we didn't register the aircraft taking off because sometimes they use intersection Y. So, in the future, aircraft should not be cleared into position until they are visible to the other aircraft awaiting takeoff.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: S80 DEP FROM DFW OBSERVED PARALLEL TFC ENTERING RWY RESULTING IN AN ATC INITIATED ABORTED TKOF.
Narrative: WE WERE CLRED INTO POS ON RWY 17R AT INTXN EH. AS WE ROLLED FORWARD, WE NOTICED AN ACFT Y JET ALSO GOING INTO POS AT THE FULL LENGTH. WE NOTICED THE CONFLICT AND STOPPED JUST OVER THE HOLD LINE. AFTER TWR REALIZED THE PROB, THEY ABORTED ACFT Y'S TKOF. THEY GAVE US CLRNC TO TAXI ONTO THE RWY AND OFF AT TXWY Y. THIS SIT OCCURRED DUE TO MANY FACTORS: ACFT CLRED FOR TKOF AT FULL LENGTH, WE WERE CLRED INTO POS BEFORE THE ACFT Y HAD DEPARTED, WE COULD NOT SEE ACFT Y BECAUSE THERE WAS AN ACFT BTWN US AND IT WAS NIGHT. ALSO, WE DIDN'T REGISTER THE ACFT TAKING OFF BECAUSE SOMETIMES THEY USE INTXN Y. SO, IN THE FUTURE, ACFT SHOULD NOT BE CLRED INTO POS UNTIL THEY ARE VISIBLE TO THE OTHER ACFT AWAITING TKOF.
