Narrative:
Taxi out, ground asked us to contact tower. The first officer switched over and the tower asked if we were ready to go. We were giving the briefing at the time and thought he said we were cleared to go. We were #1 and didn't see another aircraft in the area. I went into position on the runway, which we were cleared to do. I called for the takeoff check, when I saw a B767 that just landed on runway 9R merging with our runway. I said 'I think he's going to cross our runway.' we had just released the brakes when the tower called. He asked if we were holding in position. I reset the brakes and answered yes. We had started to roll slightly, but it caused the spoilers to deploy. I was afraid that it looked like an aborted takeoff.
