Narrative:
We took off on runway 27R at sfb (sanford, fl). We assume the other aircraft took off on runway 27C. We were flying runway heading to 5000 ft. The light aircraft was on the extended centerline of runway 27R. We performed an immediate left turn and stopped climbing. I was flying and the first officer called my attention to the traffic, then we got the TCASII TA/RA. Supplemental information from acn 602231: while passing through 1000 ft on our altimeters I noticed the C172 slightly below us and directly in front of us. I immediately brought it to the captain's attention and he executed a left turn without hesitation. We then received the TCASII TA/RA. Since the C172 was moving in the same direction as us (west) and appeared to be climbing, it may be fair to assume that they took off from runway 27C and drifted right (north) to the runway 27R centerline.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: B727 DEP FROM SFB HAS NMAC WITH C172 BELIEVED TO BE OFF PARALLEL RWY.
Narrative: WE TOOK OFF ON RWY 27R AT SFB (SANFORD, FL). WE ASSUME THE OTHER ACFT TOOK OFF ON RWY 27C. WE WERE FLYING RWY HEADING TO 5000 FT. THE LIGHT ACFT WAS ON THE EXTENDED CTRLINE OF RWY 27R. WE PERFORMED AN IMMEDIATE L TURN AND STOPPED CLBING. I WAS FLYING AND THE FO CALLED MY ATTN TO THE TFC, THEN WE GOT THE TCASII TA/RA. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 602231: WHILE PASSING THROUGH 1000 FT ON OUR ALTIMETERS I NOTICED THE C172 SLIGHTLY BELOW US AND DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF US. I IMMEDIATELY BROUGHT IT TO THE CAPT'S ATTN AND HE EXECUTED A L TURN WITHOUT HESITATION. WE THEN RECEIVED THE TCASII TA/RA. SINCE THE C172 WAS MOVING IN THE SAME DIRECTION AS US (W) AND APPEARED TO BE CLBING, IT MAY BE FAIR TO ASSUME THAT THEY TOOK OFF FROM RWY 27C AND DRIFTED R (N) TO THE RWY 27R CTRLINE.
