Narrative:

At approximately 1500 ft AGL, we noticed a split flap indication on the trailing edge flap indicator/gage. Executed a missed approach and ran the most recent iteration to the flap abnormal checklist. Determined that the problem appeared to be the flap indicator fault variety and completed the appropriate procedure per the afm/QRH. Landed uneventfully. ZZZ ATC was very cooperative and gave us airspace and a box pattern down by the AFB to complete our procedure. Estimated time from miss to touchdown, approximately 10 mins. Callback conversation with the reporter revealed the following information: the reporter suspects the trailing edge flap position indicator was replaced as the indicator is an industry wide problem in causing asymmetrical flap shutoff problems. The reporter said the indicator has been the subject of several company alert bulletins and has resulted in flaps extension speed lowered by 10 KTS.
