Narrative:
At XA00Z, dfw tower cleared our flight aab into position and hold runway 17R. I acknowledged, 'air carrier aab, position and hold runway 17R.' a few seconds later, I thought I heard tower state, 'air carrier aab, cleared for takeoff.' I read back 'air carrier aab, cleared for takeoff,' and I finished the takeoff checklist. As I was adding power, the captain said, 'wait.' then air carrier aac said, 'we can't take off' there is a carj in front of us.' dfw tower said, 'who is in position runway 17R?' I replied, 'air carrier aab.' takeoff clearance was cancelled. After tower sorted out who was where, we were cleared for takeoff. I would like to add that air carrier aac was behind us, waiting for takeoff. I'm quite certain the position and hold clearance was for air carrier aab, but not as sure the takeoff clearance was.

Title: SIMILAR CALL SIGNS CONTRIBUTE TO TKOF CLRNC CONFUSION BTWEEN LCL CTLR AND FLT CREWS OF TWO ACR ACFT AT DFW.
Narrative: AT XA00Z, DFW TWR CLRED OUR FLT AAB INTO POS AND HOLD RWY 17R. I ACKNOWLEDGED, 'ACR AAB, POS AND HOLD RWY 17R.' A FEW SECONDS LATER, I THOUGHT I HEARD TWR STATE, 'ACR AAB, CLRED FOR TKOF.' I READ BACK 'ACR AAB, CLRED FOR TKOF,' AND I FINISHED THE TKOF CHKLIST. AS I WAS ADDING PWR, THE CAPT SAID, 'WAIT.' THEN ACR AAC SAID, 'WE CAN'T TAKE OFF' THERE IS A CARJ IN FRONT OF US.' DFW TWR SAID, 'WHO IS IN POS RWY 17R?' I REPLIED, 'ACR AAB.' TKOF CLRNC WAS CANCELLED. AFTER TWR SORTED OUT WHO WAS WHERE, WE WERE CLRED FOR TKOF. I WOULD LIKE TO ADD THAT ACR AAC WAS BEHIND US, WAITING FOR TKOF. I'M QUITE CERTAIN THE POS AND HOLD CLRNC WAS FOR ACR AAB, BUT NOT AS SURE THE TKOF CLRNC WAS.
